RDC and Falck Renewables Limited are working together to develop and build over 300MW of wind energy projects in England, Scotland and Wales focusing principally in Scotland. RDC, which has offices in Edinburgh and Mold in North Wales, has been one of the most successful developers of wind projects in the UK over recent years. Since its formation in 1996, RDC has been successful in obtaining planning approval for both the largest onshore wind energy project (58.5MW at Cefn Croes) and the largest offshore wind project (150MW at Rhyl Flats) in the UK.
Falck Renewables Limited is a wind energy subsidiary of the Falck Group, an Italian company with headquarters in Milan. The Falck Group, with turnover for 2001 in excess of €700m, was until recently the second largest independent power producer in Italy and has recently diversified into environmental and renewable activities. Falck Renewables Limited will own and operate the projects developed by the joint venture with RDC.

Global warming is clearly with us. This year saw the highest temperature ever recorded in this country and the last decade has been the warmest on record. Climate change is already having an effect across the planet; the ice caps and glaciers are thinning, sea levels are rising and whilst some areas are becoming drier and suffering drought and fires, other areas are becoming wetter and suffering from widespread flooding.
One of the main causes of climate change is from the emissions produced from the burning of fossil fuels. International and national governments have both recognised this and have introduced policies aimed at reducing these emissions. One of the key aspects of these policies is to replace electricity generated from fossil fuel (coal, oil and gas) with electricity generated from renewable energy resources. The Government has set a target of producing over 10% of the UK's electricity requirements from renewable energy by 2010 and in Scotland the Scottish Executive have endorsed a target for Scotland of 20% within this timeframe. The UK has the best wind resource in Europe and wind energy is therefore expected to provide the major share of the renewable energy target.
